Safe Module Read Preflight Checklist
A concise workshop checklist for power, connection, backup and recovery readiness before reading a vehicle module.

Confirm authority and job scope
- Confirm that the customer or workshop is authorized to work on the vehicle and module.
- Record the requested repair outcome and avoid unrelated security, emissions or immobilizer changes.
- Check the tool vendor's current procedure for the exact control-unit family and connection mode.
Stabilize the electrical environment
- Use a suitable regulated support supply and confirm voltage and current capacity before connecting.
- Inspect grounds, connectors, adapter orientation and pinout against trusted documentation.
- Disable workshop conditions that may interrupt the session, including unstable wireless links or a sleeping computer.
Create a recovery-ready record
- Capture a complete diagnostic scan and module identification report.
- Save the original read without renaming away important identifiers.
- Record the tool, software version, protocol, connection mode, checksum status and read time.
- Verify that the backup can be opened and that its size is plausible for the selected protocol.
- Keep an untouched copy separate from any working or modified copy.
Stop on mismatched evidence
Unexpected identification, a different protocol, implausible file size, checksum warnings or repeated communication errors are reasons to stop and reassess. Do not convert uncertainty into a programming attempt.
