Identify the intended programming ecosystem
OEM package formats are designed for particular diagnostic or programming ecosystems. Establish the supported vehicle family, module, toolchain and update path before comparing filenames.
Build the comparison set
- Current module part number, hardware number and software number.
- Vehicle identification, market, model year and relevant equipment configuration.
- Package part/software identifiers and any supersession information from a trusted source.
- Required programming application, interface, access level and preparation procedure.
Review supersession carefully
A newer package may supersede an older software version without being valid for every hardware revision or vehicle configuration. Confirm the complete update chain and prerequisites rather than inferring compatibility from a higher version number.
Prepare for an interrupted session
- Use stable power and a reliable communication path.
- Preserve the original diagnostic report and any available backup.
- Know the supported recovery route before starting.
- Record the package identity, tool log and result with the work order.
